Introduction

With todays the release of the Minecraft Movie staring Jack Black as the mononymous Steve. We take a look at the TAG Heuer Monaco, a watch we're sure would be Steve's go to watch. It's square, it's his favourite colour, and more importantly, it would help him keep track of the time for when all those zombies, spiders and creepers attack!

The History of the Monaco

The most iconic square watch in the horological world.

The TAG Heuer Monaco. Even the name rolls off the tongue with a certain effortless cool, conjuring images of roaring engines, sun-drenched grandstands, and a rebellious spirit. More than just a timepiece, the Monaco is an icon, instantly recognizable thanks to its bold square case – a design choice that flew in the face of horological convention when it debuted in 1969.

Born from a desire to push boundaries, both in design and technology, the Monaco was one of the world's first automatic chronograph chronometers. Its robust construction and water resistance made it a practical tool watch, but it was its striking aesthetics that truly set it apart. The sharp angles, the contrasting subdials, and often a vibrant blue dial cemented its place as a statement piece.

Famously worn by Steve McQueen in the film "Le Mans," the Monaco became forever linked with speed, style, and a touch of daredevilry. That association continues to this day, with TAG Heuer releasing modern interpretations that honour the original while incorporating contemporary advancements. Whether you opt for a faithful re-edition or a more modern take, strapping a Monaco onto your wrist is a declaration of individuality and an appreciation for horological history.

A Square Watch for a Blocky Legend

The TAG Heuer Monaco is Perfect for Steve!

Now, let's indulge in a bit of whimsical imagining. Picture this: Steve, the silent protagonist of Minecraft, finally decides to treat himself after another successful day of fending off creepers and mining diamonds. What watch would grace his blocky wrist? It has to be the TAG Heuer Monaco.

Think about it. Steve's world is built on perfect squares and right angles. Everything from the blocks he meticulously places to the tools he crafts adheres to this geometric aesthetic. A traditional round watch would simply look out of place on his angular form. The Monaco's unapologetically square case, however, would fit seamlessly with his inherent style.

Imaging the sweat dripping down his square head as he watches the milliseconds tick down to night, releasing the monsters into the darkness. The sheer audacity and iconic design of the Monaco would undoubtedly appeal to his resourceful and somewhat unconventional nature. It would be a subtle yet powerful statement, a touch of sophisticated rebellion in a world built block by block.

The TAG Heuer Monaco, whether on the wrist of a legendary actor or, in our imagination, a legendary block builder, remains a testament to daring design and enduring appeal. It's a watch that stands out from the crowd, just like the individuals who choose to wear it.

Will any strap fit my watch?

Whether a watch strap is universal is dependent on how the strap attaches to the watch. If the watch has a conventional lug arrangement which will hold a straight ended watch strap, you can attach almost all watch straps to that watch. However, some watches are designed so that you cannot fit a universal replacement watch strap to it.
